Swinging on a porch swing looking out over the hills of the Champagne Valley as the sun sets and the sky turns orange/pink. This is what I remember most about our stay at the Ardmore Guest Farm. This moment in South Africa was definitely a moment to never forget, to never forget South Africa.
Ardmore Guest Farm, an authentic farm in the Drakensbergen
The Ardmore Guest farm is located in the Champagne Valley in the Drakensbergen, South Africa The Drakensbergen is a large mountain range in South Africa with a height of 3,482 meters. It is especially the diverse landscape of the Drakensbergen that impresses. One moment you are standing on a large meadow with flowers or swimming under a waterfall and the next moment you are standing on a high mountaintop overlooking the green hills of the Drakensbergen.
The Ardmore Guest Farm is very close to the entrance of the Drakensbergen, where you can hike several trails. From the Ardmore Guest Farm you can already get a small glimpse of the hills and mountains of South Africa.

The Ardmore Guest Farm is a large farm, which consists of several buildings. The various buildings and chalets of the Ardmore Guest Farm are spread over the estate of this farm. There is a main building where you can find the reception and also the restaurant and there are several chalets spread over the estate.

The Ardmore Guest Farm rents out several chalets. We stayed in one of these chalets with a beautiful view on the mountains. The word chalet may not be quite right, because this chalet in the Ardmore Guest Farm is no less than 100 m2 in size. The chalet consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large living room. The living room is a large lounge with a large sofa and fireplace. But actually you don't need that much space inside, because the best place of this chalet is the terrace. While sitting on the terrace you look out over the extensive lawns of the Ardmore Guest Farm with the hills of South Africa beyond. And when the sun goes down, this is a place to never forget.
As a bonus, the Ardmore Guest Farm has set up a porch swing in the garden to add some extra magic to this spot. A perk in this chalet of the Ardmore Guest Farm was the jacuzzi, where you can relax after a long walk through the Drakensbergen.

Furthermore, the Ardmore Guest Farm has all the facilities you could wish for. A gym, art gallery, gift shop, children's playground, ceramic art museum, bead shop and of course a bar and restaurant can all be found at Ardmore Guest Farm. The restaurant at the Ardmore Guest Farm is a very cozy restaurant in the main building. This restaurant has stunning views over the mountains of South Africa and the food is truly delicious. You can choose from different dishes every night and everything we ate here was delicious. But it is above all the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff that makes eating in this restaurant an unforgettable experience.

Visit the ceramic museum on the farm
If you have a fishing rod with you, there is a river on the farm where you can fish.
Hike up the mountain for 45 minutes for great views over the Champagne Valley.
This area seems to be very nice for cycling, but then you have to bring your own bike
At an hour and a half drive you will find the Giants Castle Rock art Cave where you can book a tour. Click HERE for more information.

It's an hour drive and a 3 hours walk, but than you will get to the second highest waterfall in the world, the Tugela falls with a height of 973 meter. Click HERE for more information.

Would you like to visit a wildlife park, than the Weenen Game Reserve at an hour drive from the Ardmore Guest Farm might be something for you. You can see a lot of animals here, for example giraffs and rhinos.

This hotel is an absolute must to stop during your trip through Africa. The location is fantastic with lots of opportunities to explore Africa within a short distance of the property.
And staying at the Ardmore Guest Farm with the luxurious cottages, the beautiful views, the friendly people and the good services is fantastic. Unfortunately we only stayed here for 2 nights, but would have liked to have stayed a little longer.
