Casa Vicens

Casa Vicens a very creative house for the end of the nineteenth century
Casa Vicens is another building by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. Antoni Gaudi was still young when he was commissioned by Manel Vicens y Montaner to build him a summer house between 1883 and 1888. Casa Vicens was Antoni Gaudi's very first house in Barcelona. In the design of this summer house, he wanted to show all his skills and incorporate as much of his special style as possible into this building.
And it certainly succeeded. Casa Vicens became a house unlike any other in Catalonia and was particularly creative and innovative for this period. It was actually one of the first buildings to be built in a new art and architecture style that was seen emerging at the end of the 19th century. The design of Casa Vicens was the start of Antoni Gaudi's very impressive career.
Nature as the greatest source of inspiration for Casa Vicens
In all the buildings he designs, nature is the greatest source of inspiration for Antoni Gaudi. In this way, nature also formed the inspiration for the design of Casa Vicens and you can see this source of inspiration reflected in various elements in this building.
For example, the cast iron gate is very special, in which the leaves of palm trees and carnations are processed. You can also see these carnations in the ceramic tiles of Casa Vicens.
You can also see nature in various elements in the inside of Casa Vicens, so that the inside and outside of Casa Vicens form a beautiful whole.

The special details of Casa Vicens
There is so much to see when you walk through Casa Vicens that you will definitely miss some details. But don't forget to look at the corners in this house, for example. The corners are ribbed, because Antoni Gaudi wanted to break with the classic, sleek architecture. But it will mainly be the many colored ceramic tiles that will immediately catch the eye.

Casa Vicens was a favorite building among Barcelona's elite
When you walk through Casa Vicens you will see different influences including Indian and Japanese influences. This oriental exoticism, as it was called at the time, was immediately very popular among the elite of Barcelona.
